Skin biopsy care

We recommend proper skin care to accelerate the healing process following a skin biopsy. Lack of care may result in increased bruising and bleeding. With appropriate care, you can prevent infection, promoting healing with lesser soreness and pain.

What is Skin Biopsy? Get Introduced with the Procedure

We recommend skin biopsy, a surgical procedure to diagnose critical skin conditions like skin cancer, psoriasis and fungal or bacterial skin infections. In this procedure, we obtain a skin sample from the patient undergoing biopsy through various methods. The method adopted to get the skin sample depends on the location of the affected area. If an infection is suspected, the obtained skin sample is put in a formaldehyde solution or a sterile container. We then process and place under a microscope for thorough examination.

Post Biopsy Care

We strongly recommend that you take good care of the injury caused by this surgical process to prevent serious infections. When it comes to skin biopsy care in Budlake, get in touch with us at Asthma & Allergy Care P.C. We will provide you with detailed guidance on how to clean the area from where the skin sample has been cut out for biopsy, and speed up healing.

How to Take Care of the Scar?

  • Make sure that your dressing is dry for the first two days.
  • After two days, remove the dressing and clean the scar with soap and water.
  • Remove scabs that may have formed over the stitches carefully with water
  • Pat the scar dry.
  • Put a thin layer of antibiotic ointment that may have been prescribed. Make sure that your hand is clean while applying the ointment.
  • Put a waterproof bandage on the wound.

Repeat this procedure every day until the stitches are removed by the medical technicians at our skin biopsy care clinic in Union Country and in Denville.

Avoid smoking in the first week following the surgical process since it enhances the risk of infection and delays healing.

When to Reach Out to a Doctor?

The following problems are not desirable following a skin biopsy procedure:

  • A temperature of 101° F or more accompanied by chills
  • Extreme redness or swelling in the stitches
  • Increased pain and soreness
  • Continuous bleeding
